The UFC has launched its Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotion, UFC BJJ, with its first event scheduled for June 25 during International Fight Week, featuring a reality show called “UFC BJJ: Road to the Title” and crowning champions in multiple weight classes.
UFC BJJ is now official! On Friday, the world’s top fighting organization announced the launch of their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotion. Exciting times ahead with a new event and reality show on the horizon.
Mark your calendars for June 25! UFC BJJ 1 kicks off during the annual International Fight Week, just before the massive UFC 317 card. Headlining the fight card? Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title. Oh, and they’re crowning bantamweight, lightweight, and welterweight champs! Participants? To be revealed soon. But here’s a teaser: Mikey Musumeci and rising star Rerisson Gabriel will battle for the 135-pound title.
But wait, there’s more! The promotion’s launching a reality show, UFC BJJ: Road to the Title. Think The Ultimate Fighter vibes. Musumeci and Gabriel are stepping in as coaches. Catch the eight-episode series starting June 12 at Noon ET on UFC’s YouTube channel. Daily episodes, folks!
Dana White, UFC CEO, chimed in, “I first got into MMA through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s foundational in martial arts. The reality show and live events will push it mainstream. I’m thrilled!”
