UFC Paris: Ciryl Gane Secures Victory with Sensational Knockout of Serghei Spivac

After a loss to Jon Jones, Ciryl Gane bounced back in a triumphant victory against Serghei Spivac during the main event of UFC Paris, successfully retaining his No. 3 spot in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings.

Ciryl Gane recently performed impressively following a previous setback. In a fight after being defeated by Jon Jones last March, Gane stood out notably as he clearly overpowered Serghei Spivac. The fight, which was an exciting, main event spectacle at UFC Paris, was witnessed by an enraptured French audience.

Gane, known as “Bon Gamin”, was barely under threat from Spivac, a celebrated grappler. He demonstrated advanced takedown resistance and the high-level athleticism that has made him a top heavyweight in only five years as a professional fighter. Spivac’s multiple attempts to take the fight to the ground were futile as the nimble Gane successfully shielded all takedown efforts while launching powerful strikes at Spivac.

Round 2 of the contest saw Gane increase his momentum, trapping Spivac against the fence and repeatedly landing powerful blows until the referee, Marc Goddard, had to intervene to halt the contest at 3:44. Following the fight, Gane expressed his happiness at the win, stating that he felt a need to prove that he was still in the running after the disappointing result of his last fight. He added an ambitious, “let’s go to the belt now.”

Gane once held an interim UFC heavyweight title, but lost in a unification matchup to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270 and later also to Jones in the battle for the vacated title at UFC 285. His UFC record stands at 9 wins and 2 losses, and with this victory, he retains his number three spot in the Global Rankings. For Spivac, this match ended his commendable three-fight winning streak.
