UFC bantamweight Douglas Silva de Andrade received a six-month suspension after testing positive for the banned diuretic furosemide, due to a tainted supplement, and will be eligible to compete again on August 28.
UFC bantamweight Douglas Silva de Andrade is sidelined until later this year. Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD), the UFC’s drug-testing agency, announced a six-month suspension for Silva de Andrade. Why? He tested positive for furosemide, a banned diuretic.
The test happened on Feb. 14, forcing him out of a fight with John Castaneda. Bummer, right? Silva de Andrade handed over a supplement he’d been using. It didn’t list furosemide as an ingredient. Hmm.
The supplement was tested in Salt Lake City. Surprise! Furosemide was found. Not just once. A sealed container of the same supplement also tested positive. Tainted, but rules are rules.
CSAD noted no intentional use by Silva de Andrade. Still, he didn’t stick to the UFC’s advice to only use approved, third-party tested supplements. Oops.
His suspension started Feb. 28. He’s eligible to return on Aug. 28. At 39, Silva de Andrade holds a 7-6 UFC record, having lost a decision to Miles Johns last June. Can’t wait to see him back in action!
