Chris Weidman vs Jack Hermansson in the Works for UFC Fight Night

UFC

Chris Weidman will go back to middleweight in the hopes to reclaim the middleweight championship. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that the UFC is looking to have Weidman face Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City on May 2. Weidman has been open about his attentions to moving down to middleweight in the last few weeks.

Weidman tried competing at light heavyweight for the first time in the UFC against Dominick Reyes at UFC on ESPN 6 on October 18, 2019 and lost by knockout. The former middleweight champion has won one out of his last six fights spanning from his title loss by TKO against Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015. Weidman’s last win was against Kevin Gastelum by submission at UFC on Fox 25 on July 22, 2017.

Weidman at age 35 will look to bounce back after his loss against Reyes. When Weidman moved to light heavyweight, he was removed from the rankings. Hermansson is ranked sixth in the middleweight division. A win over Hermansson will put Weidman back into the rankings and can put him back in the hunt to being a middleweight contender.

Hermansson is looking to come back from a TKO loss against Jared Cannonier that took place at UFC Fight Night 160 on September 28, 2019. Before his loss against Cannonier, Hermansson was on a four-fight win streak with his biggest victory being against Ronaldo Souza by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 150 on September 28, 2019. A win over a Weidman can set Hermansson up for a bigger fight with someone that can put him among title contenders.
