Chael Sonnen slams ‘two-faced’ Jorge Masvidal, sparking fiery response

Chael Sonnen responded to insults from former UFC star Jorge Masvidal with a series of tweets mocking Masvidal’s past legal issues, fights, and ability, and Masvidal later responded by calling Sonnen a “juice head” and challenging him to keep the same energy in person.

Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal have recently engaged in a social media spat following Masvidal’s appearance on The MMA Hour, where he sided with Ariel Helwani in his disagreement with Sonnen. Sonnen responded by taking shots at Masvidal’s UFC losses, his assault case involving Colby Covington, and suggesting that Masvidal sought career advice from him in the past. Masvidal later replied by calling Sonnen a “juice head,” to which Sonnen promptly responded with a tweet.

The conflict between the two fighters dates back to the events before UFC 272, where Covington defeated Masvidal via unanimous decision. Masvidal was later arrested for allegedly assaulting Covington outside a Miami restaurant. In a series of tweets, Sonnen made references to Masvidal’s arrest and mockingly asked if he could kick with the leg that’s wearing the house-arrest ankle monitor. The social media confrontation continued with Masvidal challenging Sonnen to keep the same energy in person, and Sonnen responding with a remark about unlikely in-person encounters.

Sonnen directed a total of 17 tweets at Masvidal. The back-and-forth conflict on social media seems to have stemmed from a disagreement surrounding the compensation Francis Ngannou received for his boxing match with Tyson Fury. The feud between Sonnen and Masvidal appears to be a result of personal disputes and animosity between the two former UFC stars, which have been publicly aired on social media.
