Dana White’s plan for Jorge Masvidal to compete for UFC title with victory at UFC 287.

Dana White has outlined a path for Jorge Masvidal to fight for the title with UFC 287 win, through a potential fight with Leon Edwards if he beats Colby Covington.

UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Colby Covington will be next in line for a title shot against welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Despite this, BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal hoped to convince White otherwise by putting on a stellar performance against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. However, White made it clear that he has no plans to change his mind on Covington, but that doesn’t mean Masvidal won’t have a chance to fight for the title in the future.

White outlined a path for Masvidal to potentially fight for the title in his next bout. If Masvidal does well against Burns, and if Edwards beats Covington in their upcoming fight, it would set up a big opportunity for Masvidal to finally face off against Edwards. The history behind their feud would make the fight even more anticipated, with fans itching to see what would ultimately unfold.

The rivalry between Masvidal and Edwards dates back to March 2019 when Masvidal punched Edwards during a backstage altercation at UFC Fight Night 147 following Masvidal’s win over Darren Till. The two men have been calling each other out ever since, but have yet to actually fight in the octagon. If both men are able to win their respective fights, a showdown between them could be absolutely massive.

In the end, while Masvidal didn’t sway White’s decision on who will get the next title shot, there is still hope for Masvidal in the future. His path to the title may be a bit more complicated, but it’s clear that Masvidal is not giving up on his dream of becoming a champion in the UFC.
