Dominick Reyes Awaits Clearance for Return to Fighting Following Positive Health Update

Dominick Reyes, a two-time UFC title challenger, has announced that he has received a clean bill of health after dealing with deep vein thrombosis, and hopes to return to fighting soon.

Dominick Reyes is on a mission to revive his career. He’s got some good news about his health that might just pave the way for his return to the ring.

Reyes, a two-time UFC title contender, recently shared a video on Instagram. He revealed his struggle with deep vein thrombosis, a nasty condition where a blood clot forms deep in a vein, usually in the legs. This condition can cause a whole host of health problems and it’s what kept Reyes from fighting as recently as January. He was supposed to face Carlos Ulberg.

“Hey everyone,” Reyes said, just after his appointment at Victor Valley Imaging. “I just got a clean bill of health.” No more deep vein thrombosis.

He’s pretty stoked about it. “Just a few more days of blood thinners and I’m good to go, 100 percent,” he said. Reyes expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received. “Thank you, everybody, for the kind words, the love, and reaching out and everything.” He’s ready to get back in the game. “Time to get back at it, baby. I’m ready to go.”

Reyes was a force to be reckoned with in the light heavyweight division at his peak. He gave former champion Jon Jones a run for his money in a razor-close decision back in 2020. But things took a turn for the worse for Reyes after that. He suffered a knockout loss to Jan Blachowicz in his second attempt at becoming UFC champion.

Then came the fight with future champion Jiri Prochazka, a barnburner back in 2021. Reyes lost. Then he was knocked out by Ryan Spann, marking his fourth consecutive loss.

Reyes was out of the game for more than a year. He was set to return in January for a fight with Ulberg at UFC 297, but an injury put a stop to that. He was then supposed to clash with Ulberg in March, but his health condition kept him from competing.

Reyes didn’t mention when he hopes to fight again. But with a clean bill of health from the deep vein thrombosis, it’s likely he’ll be back in the ring sometime in 2024.
