Elves Brener Fights Charles Oliveira in UFC 301 After Tough Weight Cut

Elves Brener made weight for his UFC 301 lightweight bout against Myktybek Orolbai, but struggled to stay conscious during the process, with teammate Allan Nascimento posting a video of the difficult weight cut.

Elves Brener, the MMA fighter, managed to hit the scales for his lightweight clash with Myktybek Orolbai at UFC 301. It wasn’t a cakewalk, though. He had his team rallying behind him, with one teammate getting a front-row seat to the ordeal.

Brener tipped the scales at 156 pounds during Friday’s official weigh-ins. As the weigh-in window kicked off, Allan Nascimento, Brener’s Chute Box comrade, shared a chilling Instagram video. It showed Brener’s grueling weight cut, with ex-lightweight champ Charles Oliveira by his side in a tiny infrared sauna. Brener seemed to struggle to stay awake.

You can catch the video below.

Brener wasn’t the only one at UFC 301 who had a tough time making weight. William Gomis, the French featherweight, was pulled from his fight against Jean Silva. This came after a frightening weigh-in and a backstage vomiting incident.

Despite the rough cut, Brener is all set to make waves in UFC’s most competitive division. He’s coming off a stellar 2023 run, where he scored victories over big shots like Zubaira Tukhugov and Guram Kutateladze. Not to mention, a knockout win against Contender Series veteran Kaynan Kruschewsky at UFC Sao Paulo in November.

At 26, Brener is once again the underdog as he squares off against Oralbai. Oralbai is on a roll with a seven-fight winning streak, including a last-minute knockout win over Uros Medic in his UFC debut last November.
