Ex-WWE Star Matt Riddle Expresses Desire for MMA Comeback in Late 2024

Former WWE star Matt Riddle is considering a return to MMA in 2024, following successful careers in both professional wrestling and MMA, and is currently exploring opportunities in bare-knuckle boxing and other combat sports.

Matt Riddle, ex-WWE star, is considering a return to the cage. At 38, Riddle has carved out a unique career in both MMA and professional wrestling. He’s a graduate of The Ultimate Fighter 7, and has fought in the UFC 12 times between 2008 and 2013.

Interestingly, he was let go from the UFC while on a four-fight winning streak. The reason? Two failed drug tests for cannabis. But Riddle didn’t let that stop him. He pivoted to professional wrestling, climbing the ranks from the indies to WWE stardom.

His WWE journey ended in September after a five-year stint. But Riddle wasn’t out of the game for long. He’s now with Major League Wrestling and Japan’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling. He even snagged the NJPW World Television Championship.

Despite his wrestling success, Riddle’s MMA roots are calling him. He’s considering a 2024 return.

“I’ve been approached by a few folks in the fight game,” Riddle revealed on The MMA Hour. He’s been contacted by bare-knuckle boxing and someone from PFL. “They asked if I was interested, and I said I’m definitely interested. But the fight and the money have to be right.”

He hasn’t heard back yet, but he’s been busy wrestling. “It’s guaranteed money,” he says. But he’d love to step back into the cage or ring. He’s aiming for the end of 2024.

Riddle’s last MMA fight was in 2014 for Titan FC. He won a second-round submission against Michael Kuiper, bringing his pro record to 8-3 (2 NCs). That was his only pro fight outside the UFC.

Since then, Riddle’s life has changed significantly. He’s had multiple rehab stints and faced various controversies. He’s open about his WWE firing and other issues on The MMA Hour.

As for an MMA comeback, Riddle is just waiting for the right opportunity. He currently weighs 211 pounds, but he’s willing to lose weight for a return to the cage. He’s even considering bare-knuckle MMA.

“I’ll drop down to middleweight,” Riddle says. “Depends on who you give me.”

He adds with a laugh, “Maybe give me somebody I can steamroll. I’m not saying he does a job for me, but let me shake off the rust.”
