Florida State kicker Ryan Fitzgerald nailed a career-long 59-yard field goal and celebrated with a McGregor-inspired strut, but his efforts were in vain as Florida State lost to Georgia Tech 24-21 in Dublin.
Florida State kicker Ryan Fitzgerald knew what he had to do in Dublin, Ireland.
He booted a stunning 59-yard field goal on Saturday. Then, in true showman style, he celebrated with the billionaire strut. You know, the one Vince McMahon made famous before Conor McGregor took it over.
After that colossal kick, Fitzgerald turned to his teammates. Their excitement was palpable as he tied the game 14-14 just before halftime.
That kick? It was the longest of his career and the second-longest in Florida State’s history. Quite a feat!
But alas, Fitzgerald’s heroics weren’t enough. Georgia Tech, unranked and hungry, managed to topple Florida State in the season opener.
Before this upset, Florida State was sitting pretty at No. 10. That ranking will definitely take a hit after Georgia Tech’s surprising victory with a final score of 24-21.
Even so, Fitzgerald gave the Dublin crowd something to remember at Aviva Stadium. What a show!
