UFC 297 headliners Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis engaged in a cageside brawl during UFC 296 in Las Vegas, causing a disturbance near Gilbert Burns‘ family, who were in attendance.
Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis caused quite the stir. Their scuffle broke out cageside at UFC 296 in Vegas, right by Gilbert Burns’ family.
The welterweight contender was there with Bruna and the kids. They were cheering on Alexandre Pantoja in his title defense. Suddenly, Strickland and Du Plessis popped up on the big screen.
It was a heated moment, a verbal clash escalating quickly. Strickland, set to defend his middleweight title at UFC 297, lunged at Du Plessis. He’d motioned to Bruna and the children to step aside just before the chaos erupted.
Bruna recalls the confusion. “He was like, ‘Excuse me, excuse me,’ and I was like, ‘Alright then,’” she told MMA Fighting. “Durinho” grabbed Joshua, urging Bruna to move away.
They were glued to the big screen, oblivious to the impending brawl. Jamahal Hill yanked Bruna away just in time.
Du Plessis was already there when the Burns clan arrived. Strickland showed up later, exchanging pleasantries with no hint of the coming storm. Bruna mentioned an apologetic text from Strickland to “Durinho” later on, concerned for her and the kids.
Pedro, however, was thrilled by the front-row action. “He loves it,” Burns chuckled. Joshua, on the other hand, was bewildered by the premature fight. Bruna tried to explain the sudden call-out and tussle.
Thankfully, the family was safe. Post-brawl, Strickland was ushered out, while Du Plessis remained for the rest of the event.
Gilbert Burns is gearing up for UFC 299 in Miami. The family plans to be there, supporting him once more. Bruna, with her own fight history, won’t be cornering “Durinho.” She prefers to coach from the stands, predicting a submission win for her husband against Jack Della Maddalena.
