Brazilian fighter Igor Severino, who was released from the UFC for biting his opponent and subsequently suspended for nine months, has signed with Oktagon MMA and will be eligible to fight again after December 23.
Brazilian prospect Igor Severino has a new fighting home. He signed with Oktagon MMA after his release from the UFC for biting his opponent in his octagon debut.
Promotion officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
At just 21, Severino boasts an 8-1 record. However, that lone loss is memorable due to his disqualification for biting Andre Lima at a UFC Fight Night event in March.
Consequently, Severino was swiftly cut from the UFC roster. Lima, meanwhile, embraced the viral moment by tattooing the bite marks on his arm.
Post-disqualification, Severino faced further punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission. Initially agreeing to a six-month suspension, many commissioners felt this wasn’t harsh enough.
In the end, Severino received a nine-month suspension, a $2,000 fine, and $471.12 in prosecution fees paid to Nevada.
Given the nine-month suspension, Severino will be eligible to fight again after Dec. 23.
Upon serving his sentence, Severino can resume his career. He’s now set to compete in Oktagon MMA.
