Jamie Pickett Retires After 5th Consecutive UFC Loss, Prioritizes Kids

Nine-fight UFC veteran Jamie Pickett has announced his retirement from the sport following his fifth consecutive loss.

Jamie Pickett, a seasoned UFC fighter, has decided to hang up his gloves. He’s been in the ring nine times, but now, he’s calling it quits.

He took on Eryk Anders in the UFC Vegas 87 event’s featured prelim. It was held at the UFC APEX. Pickett didn’t win, though. He lost by unanimous decision.

Jon Anik, the UFC play-by-play announcer, spilled the beans during Pickett’s walkout. He said it was Pickett’s last time stepping into the octagon. Or any cage, for that matter. Retirement was on the horizon.

Pickett confirmed this after his fifth straight loss. He was ready to close the MMA chapter of his life. He made this clear during his post-fight media scrum.

He’s got a 6-year-old. And other kids who depend on him. “My little girls,” as he calls them. He wants to be a positive influence in their lives. He wants to guide them, help them navigate life. But he can’t do that if he’s all banged up from fighting.

His body isn’t holding up anymore. He loves the sport, though. He’s grateful to the UFC for letting him fight out his contract. Even if they offered him two more contracts right now, he’d still say no.

Pickett admits he got into the sport a bit late. Took a few too many hits along the way. Now, at 35, he’s ending his career. His pro record stands at 13-11. His UFC record? 2-7. He got his contract after three tries on the Contender Series. But hey, that’s life.
