Liz Carmouche Retains Flyweight Championship at Bellator 294 After Grueling Battle

Liz Carmouche defeated DeAnna Bennett via an arm-triangle choke in Round 4 of Bellator 294’s main event.

Liz Carmouche successfully defended her Bellator flyweight title on Friday night, despite a challenging first three rounds. She managed to secure a victory with an arm-triangle choke at the 4:29 mark of Round 4 against DeAnna Bennett during the Bellator 294 main event. Bennett was not eligible to win the title, as she had missed the weight requirement by 1.2 pounds on Thursday afternoon.

Carmouche recognized the advantage Bennett had in the initial rounds, stating, “Definitely in those first few rounds, not having to cut that extra weight and be at a champion level definitely showed and she was able to use that. I knew no matter what she didn’t have the gas tank, so even if I wasn’t winning those ones, I was able to get that back.” In other main card events, Sara McMann made her Bellator debut by dominating Arlene Blencowe, leading to a unanimous decision win (29-27, 30-26, 30-27). Danny Sabatello also secured a victory against Marcos Breno with a rear-naked choke submission at the 4:10 mark in the second round, bouncing back from his earlier loss to Raufeon Stots.

The remaining results for Bellator 294 included Tim Johnson defeating Said Sowma with a unanimous decision (29-28 x3), Levan Chokheli defeating Michael Lombardo with a unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27 x2), Killys Mota defeating Ken Cross via submission (RNC) (R2, 2:14), Tyrell Fortune defeating Sergey Bilostenniy with a DQ (illegal blows to back of head) (R1, 3:26), Cris Lencioni defeating Blake Smith with a submission (inverted triangle) (R2, 3:39), and Sharaf Davlatmurodov defeating Anthony Adams with a unanimous decision (30-27 x3).
