Matt Brown Hints at UFC 300 Return, Aims to Dominate with Elbow Strikes

Veteran welterweight Matt Brown has expressed his interest in fighting at UFC 300, and while nothing is confirmed yet, UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby was reportedly receptive to the idea.

Matt Brown, the welterweight veteran, missed out on UFC 100 and 200. He’s got his fingers crossed for UFC 300.

He’s got the most knockouts in division history, so it’s no surprise he’s keen to get back in the ring. On the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer, he spilled the beans. He’s been chatting with UFC about a potential return on the April 13 card. It’s all happening at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Nothing’s concrete yet, though. UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby seemed open to the idea. But where would Matt end up on the card? That’s still up in the air.

“I’m working on it,” Brown admitted. He’s spoken to Sean Shelby. He’s keen to be on it. But that’s as far as things have gone.

They’ve had a bit of a chat. To put it simply, Shelby hinted that he could more or less secure a spot for Brown on UFC 300. No guarantees, mind you. But there’s a catch. Brown might end up lower on the card than he’d like. Alternatively, he could potentially score a higher spot on a different card. It’s a bit of a conundrum.

Brown’s last fight saw him knock out Court McGee. That was back in May. He’s not sure what his next move will be. But he’s definitely up for the chance to compete on a card as historic as UFC 300. The timing’s perfect, too.

Chances are, Brown might end up on the preliminary card. UFC 300’s expected to be jam-packed with big fights. But Brown doesn’t see that as a bad thing.

“When you’re the first fight on the prelims, you know exactly when you’re going to fight,” Brown pointed out. “You get out early, hang out, chill. I get paid the same.”

He’s there to fight, after all. To smash an elbow through someone’s forehead, whether it’s in his backyard or UFC 300.

Brown didn’t discuss specific opponents with UFC. He’s not fussy. He’ll fight whoever’s put in front of him.

For Brown, it’s more about timing than the opponent. Now, he’s just waiting for a final offer so he can plan his next move.

“I’m down for whatever,” Brown declared. “They throw me an opponent and I say let’s go.”

He’s expecting to hear back soon. He’s already getting in shape. A recent staph infection threw a spanner in the works, but he’s back on track. He’s training hard, losing weight. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
