Nate Diaz Shows Solidarity with Conor McGregor, Calls for His Freedom

Nate Diaz has expressed solidarity with Conor McGregor over his frustrations with being unable to return to the UFC octagon, a situation Diaz himself is familiar with.

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor ain’t always at each other’s throats. Their rivalry’s a big deal in MMA, with two of the top-grossing pay-per-view fights under their belts. Since their last brawl in 2016, they’ve been on-again, off-again, trading barbs now and then. But this St. Paddy’s Day? Diaz is playing nice.

Diaz is standing with McGregor. Why? ‘Cause McGregor’s been trying to get back in the octagon, and it ain’t happening. He’s lost interest, tried again, lost interest again. Rinse and repeat. Diaz knows the drill.

Diaz tweeted, “This was me for years before Conor even got here they want u to die before u get out these contracts it’s up to u to make something pop no one gonna help you but you. Free Conor it’s at pattys day in this bitch ☘️ pic.twitter.com/X4WQVNV79X.”

He’s saying, “I’ve been there. They want you to crash and burn before you can get out of these contracts. You gotta make it happen. No one’s gonna help you but you. Free Conor, it’s St. Patty’s Day in this b****.”

Diaz had a similar UFC run-in. He had one fight left on his contract and wanted out. But getting that last fight? Not easy. He finally got booked against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279. But a last-minute weight miss and shuffle put him up against Tony Ferguson. Diaz won with a fourth-round submission.

As for McGregor’s return? It’s a mystery. He hinted at a summer comeback during International Fight Week. But UFC CEO Dana White thinks fall’s more likely. McGregor’s last fight was UFC 264, where he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier.
