Rose Namajunas Executive Produces UFC-Inspired Film with Lupita Nyong’o, Chloe Grace Moretz

UFC fighter Rose Namajunas will serve as an executive producer and consultant on a new film titled “Strawweight,” starring Lupita Nyong’o and Chloe Grace Moretz as UFC fighters.

Rose Namajunas is stepping into the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. She’s snagged an executive producer and consultant gig on a new film, “Strawweight”. This flick is set smack dab in the middle of the UFC universe.

Who’s starring, you ask? Well, we’ve got Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and Chloe Grace Moretz. They’re playing UFC fighters, each with their own battles to fight. They’re on a collision course, heading for a showdown in the octagon.

Nyong’o, who bagged the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for “12 Years a Slave”, plays a former UFC champ. She’s hell-bent on reclaiming her title and reinventing herself.

On the other hand, Moretz, known for “Kick-Ass” and “Let Me In”, plays a young fighter. Her life takes a sharp turn when she stumbles upon a love for MMA. Both fighters are after respect, but only one can come out on top.

The news about this upcoming film was first reported by Variety.

The director’s chair is filled by newcomer James M. Johnston. He’s previously worked with David Lowery, who’s directed films like “The Green Knight” and “The Old Man and The Gun”. Lars Knudsen, who’s worked on “Hereditary” and “The Northman”, is the producer.

This film gives Namajunas a chance to dip her toes into the film industry. She’ll be helping Nyong’o and Moretz make the MMA action as real as possible. This is her first big film gig, after leading the way in a career-focused documentary, “Thug Rose”.

“Strawweight” is the latest project to attract A-list actors like Nyong’o and Moretz. It follows in the footsteps of Oscar winner Hally Berry’s Netflix project “Bruised”. This also featured a prominent role for former UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko.

And let’s not forget about the upcoming film “The Smashing Machine”. This is being produced by indie studio A24, with “Uncut Gems” director Benny Safdie at the helm. It stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as former UFC and PRIDE star Mark Kerr.
