Sean Brady Discusses Ian Machado Garry’s Unpopularity Among Fighters

Sean Brady, following his win at UFC Austin, has expressed his desire to fight Ian Machado Garry next and criticized Garry’s behavior of filming and causing trouble in various gyms.

Sean Brady’s got his sights set on Ian Machado Garry. Fresh off his big win at UFC Austin, he’s hoping for a chance to take on Garry next.

Brady’s been away for over a year, but he came back with a bang. He dominated Kelvin Gastelum, ending in a third-round submission win just this past Saturday. Now, at 31, he’s calling out Garry. Garry’s set to face Vicente Luque at UFC 296 later this month.

But why Garry? Brady’s got his reasons. He’s noticed Garry’s been taking a lot of heat from his fellow fighters. Heavyweights like Sean Strickland and Leon Edwards aren’t exactly singing his praises.

Brady gave his two cents on the issue on The MMA Hour. “I think he’s doing it to himself,” he said. He talked about how he had his best friend follow him around with a camera in Austin. Sure, they had to post on social media, but Garry? He’s bringing cameras into gyms.

He’s filming at Renegade, at Kill Cliff. He’s bragging about knocking out sparring partners, releasing footage of him hurting people. Brady doesn’t get it. “Your team is supposed to be your family,” he said.

Brady was at his gym just this Monday. He congratulated his teammates on their wins, did his podcast, saw his coach. To him, they’re family. But Garry? He’s bouncing from gym to gym, stirring up trouble. Brady’s not a fan.

He thinks real fighters and real teams don’t appreciate Garry’s antics. He mentioned Henry Hooft and his team, who he’s a big fan of. He recalled how Eddie Alvarez was there years ago and how close-knit they seemed. But Garry? He seems to have rubbed them the wrong way too.

Brady knows Brendan Allen. He’s heard Allen call out Garry for bragging about knocking people out in the gym. “We got footage of you getting knocked out,” Allen said. Brady agrees. The real ones don’t like that kind of behavior.

Brady’s coming off his first loss at UFC Austin. He was stopped by Belal Muhammad in October 2022 at UFC 280. He spent the last year recovering from a nasty infection and working on his mental game. Now, with a 15-1 record, he believes he’s one of the top welterweights in the world.

And Garry? Brady doesn’t see why a match-up can’t happen. He was supposed to fight Luque before Garry took his spot. So he ended up fighting Kelvin. But a match with Garry? It makes sense to him.

“He knows who’s a good matchup for him, who’s a bad matchup,” Brady said. He thinks he’s a bad matchup for Garry. He hopes Garry’s seeing all this. He hopes Garry knows he wants to fight him.

Brady’s not one to talk trash. But Garry’s rubbed him the wrong way. He’s talked about beating Neil Magny in the past. He’s threatened to sue fighters. Brady’s had enough. He’d love to get in the ring and fight him.
