Now, where did I get this juicy tidbit? MMA Fighting confirmed it. They spilled the beans on Friday after Maverick herself dropped the news on her Instagram.
So, when’s the big day? UFC 298 is happening on Feb. 17. And the venue? The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Let’s talk about Lee for a sec. She’s been MIA since she lost a unanimous decision to Natalia Silva. That was at UFC 292 in August. She’s currently the No. 14-ranked flyweight in the UFC’s rankings. But, it’s been rough for her lately. She’s been on a losing streak, three in a row to be exact. Her last victory? A TKO of Cynthia Calvillo in 2021.
On the flip side, Maverick’s been doing pretty well. Better than Lee, at least. She’s won three of her last four fights. That’s put her on the brink of a ranking. The 26-year-old most recently made Priscila Cachoeira tap out in the third round at UFC 291.
Just so you know, UFC 298 isn’t all about Lee and Maverick. The main event is a featherweight title fight. It’s between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria.
