UFC Mexico City Cancels Raul Rosas Jr. vs Ricky Turcios Fight Before Walkouts

Bantamweight prospect Raul Rosas Jr.’s fight with Ricky Turcios at UFC Mexico City was cancelled due to Rosas’ illness, but has been rescheduled for the UFC Vegas 87 card on March 2.

Raul Rosas Jr. won’t be stepping into the octagon at UFC Mexico City. That’s right, no home crowd cheering for him this time.

Why, you ask?

Well, the promising bantamweight contender fell ill. So ill, in fact, that he had to pull out of his fight with Ricky Turcios. The cancellation happened just as the two were about to make their way to the octagon. The announcement came during the UFC Mexico City broadcast.

Not exactly the best situation, huh?

But don’t worry, Rosas won’t have to wait long to get back in the game. His fight with Turcios has been rescheduled. It’s now set for UFC Vegas 87 on March 2 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

And guess what?

UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the fight will be at a catchweight. This is because Rosas and Turcios had already made weight for the Mexico City card before the bout was postponed.

The March 2 card?

It’s going to be headlined by a heavyweight matchup. We’re talking Jairzinho Rozenstruik versus Shamil Gaziev.

Now, this is a bummer for Rosas. He was pumped to perform in front of his friends and family. Especially since UFC was landing in Mexico City for the first time in nearly five years.

But now, he’s got to wait a week. He’ll be facing Turcios in Las Vegas instead.

So far, Rosas has had a pretty decent start to his UFC career. The 19-year-old fighter has a 2-1 record from three fights. He’s got victories over Jay Perrin and Terrence Mitchell under his belt.

Of course, he’s hoping to add Turcios to that list when they finally fight next week. But sadly, he won’t get to perform in front of the Mexico City crowd.
