UFC Vegas 83 Post-Fight Analysis: Khalil Rountree’s Show-Stealing Finish, Song Yadong’s Main Event Victory

At UFC Vegas 83, Song Yadong defeated Chris Gutierrez in the bantamweight main event, while Khalil Rountree stole the show with a third-round finish of Anthony Smith and subsequently called out new light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.

Song Yadong may have swept the scorecards in the bantamweight main event against Chris Gutierrez, but the real show was stolen by Khalil Rountree. At UFC Vegas 83, Rountree delivered an emphatic third-round finish of Anthony Smith. He truly wowed in the co-main event. Afterward, he boldly called out the new light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira.

But here’s the question: if timing is on Rountree’s side, could he get what he wants?

MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Eric Jackman had a lot to say about this. They reacted to the UFC’s final Fight Night event of 2023, discussing Song’s dominant win over Gutierrez. They also pondered whether Song might get his wish to face Petr Yan next. They touched on Gutierrez’s frustrations throughout the fight too.

Rountree’s career seems to be hitting a stride after the biggest win of his career. Heck and Jackman also discussed his title prospects heading into 2024. There’s a lot of buzz around this guy.

They didn’t stop there, though. They also chatted about the post-fight bonus winners, Andre Muniz getting back on track against Jun Yong Park, and Tatsuro Taira picking up another stoppage victory to remain undefeated. And there was more.
