Igor Severino was disqualified during his UFC debut for biting opponent Andre Lima, causing confusion and a range of reactions from outrage to humor on social media, and prompting UFC CEO Dana White to award Lima the first-ever “I Got F****** Bit Bonus.”
Well, Igor Severino sure made a name for himself at UFC Vegas 89. And not in the way you’d expect.
His debut? One of the weirdest in UFC history.
In the second round, Severino was disqualified. Why? He bit his opponent, Andre Lima.
Talk about a plot twist.
The biting incident caused a whirlwind of confusion. Fighters in the cage, viewers at home, everyone was baffled.
It wasn’t until referee Chris Tognoni made the call that things became clear. Lima won by default.
But even after the dust settled, the MMA community was still scratching their heads.
Social media was buzzing. Fighters were commenting left, right, and center.
Some were outraged. Light heavyweight star Jamahal Hill, for instance, tweeted, “That bite mark is crazy!!! Cut this weirdo!!”
Others found humor in the situation. Michael Chiesa joked, “Severino got that dog in him.” Aljamain Sterling quipped, “If you can’t do the time, take a bite out of crime!! We got vampires out during the day now! Watch out!”
And the cherry on top?
MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz spoke to Lima’s manager. Apparently, UFC CEO Dana White is awarding Lima the first-ever “I Got F****** Bit Bonus.”
