Veteran Roxanne Modafferi Looks To Play Spoiler In UFC Star’s Rise

Experienced UFC veteran returns to the Octagon against rising star Maycee Barber at UFC 246. Modafferi was 1-1 in 2019 with a win over Antonina Shevchenko and a unanimous decision loss to Jennifer Maia.

In an interview with MMAJunkie, Modafferi was asked about Barber’s Instagram post and then asked about the concern of her opponent’s missing weight.

“I don’t mind her posting the picture but I was worried that she wouldn’t respond. She hasn’t and it’s fine.”

“I feel bitter about my opponents missing weight and defeating me. They are able to move up in ranking and opportunities open up for them. It’s not easy for me to make weight and I work hard to get fit”.

Across the Octagon will be standing a 21-year-old who has stated she will become the youngest champion the UFC has seen. Maycee ‘The Future’ Barber boasts an 8 fight win streak (3-0 in the UFC). In 2019 Barber looked impressive with 2 TKO victories over JJ Aldrich and Gillian Robertson.

In the buildup to UFC 246, Roxanne Modafferi was asked about her mindset going into this fight. Modafferi views this fight like any other fight in her 39 fight career.

“I’m getting excited about fight week. I’m soaking in all the hype right now and I like to block out everything on fight night”.

Modafferi sees many similarities between her and Maycee Barber.

“There are many similarities between Barber and I. We both figure out ways to get the job done. My last few fights I’ve been fixated on what to do during a fight but this fight I feel I can freeflow”.

Modafferi is no stranger to being an underdog and she will once again embrace the role of stopping a rising UFC star.
