UFC 249 Location: New Venue & Details Announced

UFC

The UFC may have finally found a location for UFC 249 on April 18. Sherdog founder Jeff Sherwood reports that UFC 249 will take place in the Taichi Place in Lemoore, California. Sherwood reported the news the day UFC President Dana White announced the new main event between Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight championship.

UFC 249 was originally supposed to take place in Brooklyn, NY. However, the New York Athletic Commission deemed it unsafe due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The UFC was looking at different places to try to hold UFC 249 like the Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada or someplace in Florida. White went on TMZ and talked about UFC 249 happening on a private island. Ultimately, the UFC has decided on the Tachi Palace as the location to hold the event.

Tony Ferguson was originally set to face lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in their long-awaited fight at UFC 249. However, due to a miscommunication between Numagomedov and the UFC he pulled out of the fight. Ferguson is on a 12 fight win streak and will look to become an interim champion for the second time. Gaethje is stepping in on two weeks’ notice and is on a three-fight win streak. If Ferguson or Gaethje wins, they may be in line to face Nurmagomedov later this year.
